Perseid Meteor Showers Tonight Through Monday

Thanks to the R.I. Reporter for the reminder & the link.

These meteor showers are supposed to be the best ever due to the presence of a new moon -makes the sky darker. This actually isn't saying much since in the past few years cloudcover has blocked them. But tonight looks good while Sun. is very iffy. Mon. works, too.

It needs to be very dark, 10 p.m. or ever later. The showers increase as you get closer to dawn. Use a recliner. And Most Important- Have those wishes ready!

When will this do-nothing council discover "Save The Bay" I remember hearing they offered help in preventing beach closings? Very simple end of pipe solutins can be acheved no need to reinvent the wheel or send a pipe out a mile out into the bay at a cost of millions! Almost forget the council is too wrapped up in the curbside garbage issue that seems to be falling apart like a bad bag! Don't they realize most of Middletown already handles curbside without assistance! Leave us alone, the residents do a better job on their own!

Indeed! This is also the time to speak with Rep. Kennedy about seeking fed'l funds.

For the record, I saw four meteors Sunday night between 10:30 and midnight. One was reddish and the others were bright white. The longer one stares at the sky, the easier it is to discern the constellations. This is in the driveway with a VERY bright street light across the street. So ... viewing from a dark area must be super.
Astronomy was one of my favorite topics when teaching science to my fifth graders. The best field trips we took were to the space science lab at Gaudet Middle School, especially in the days when you could ask parents to help drive the kiddies and hiring a bus was not necessary. Ah, the good old days!

Me, too regarding Gaudet! After MANY years, I finally was able to pick out constallations.
I saw 7 with two really gorgeous -streaking the entire sky. The last time I went out it was about 1 a.m. & the sky was clouding. I suppose I'll try tonight too, but the sky does not look promising.
