No Fault Absentee Ballots, Etc.
I see that John Kerry has jumped on the bandwagon for this. I've discussed this before. We can make voting easier!
A voter reminded me of the difficulty of actually voting today. She said that it's happened a number of times that she's been in the wrong place and wasn't the only one (me, too). This after waiting in line! The registrars will then ask you your district number. Well, uh,,!!! She then went to the correct place, but then wondered if others, esp. those with children or working would bother.
Oregon has initiated a paper ballot system for those wishing it. Before the election there is a time period in which you just request an absentee ballot. When it arrives (a good reminder) you have a time deadline in which to mail it. Simple. It has a paper trail. It's also improved voter turnout in poor turnout elections. Cost is little. Sounds like a good idea to me.
Suggestion: gas prices differed in a 1 mile drive between Newport & Middletown by 10 cents.
The Cadillac GM dealership (E. Main Rd.) has been sold to Barry's (Connell Hgwy.) & is moving this wk. (which explains why my car has been there going on 5 days & still isn't fixed - under warranty!) A Toyota dealership will be there now (presently on W. Main).
Will the roadwork ever end? By the height of the drains it looks like we're due for at least 1-2 more pavings on E. Main. Did they get their elevations wrong? It's been paved at least 2-3 times, maybe more. Enquiring minds would like to know!
