Newport Democrats Hosting Voter Appreciation Day

This is a welcome to a new contributor, Newporter Sandra J. Flowers, a member of the 12th district. Sandra is a retired elementary teacher who recently received her PhD. in Humanities from Salve Regina Univ. She is also the Sec. of the Newport Democratic City Committee. I look forward to her articles!

The Newport Democratic City Committee is hosting Voter Appreciation Day on Sunday, June 10, at the Elks' Lodge (Bellevue Avenue and Pelham Street) in Newport, from 3 to 6 PM. This is an opportunity to thank Aquidneck Islanders for exercising their right to vote in the last election. We have invited Island representatives in the General Assembly, state general officers, and RI's US Senators and District 1 Congressman--so this will be a chance to "meet and greet."
The event is free and family-friendly. Food will include hamburgers, hotdogs, and watermelon. The Larry Brown Orchestra will provide the music and the kids can enjoy a petting zoo, games, a dance contest, face painting, and karaoke. A bake sale of "Democratic cookies" will feature recipes from Hillary Clinton, Tipper Gore, and Lady Bird Johnson.
Voter registration will be available for those who have not had a chance to sign up ... remember, 2008 is not that far away!
Spread the word to family and friends about this free family picnic on Sunday, June 10!
