Portsmouth School Committee Chair Wedge & Vice Chair Croston Eschew Rice

"School Committee Chairwoman Sylvia Wedge and Vice Chairman David D. Croston said they are opposed to legislation introduced by Rep. Amy G. Rice, D-Portsmouth, to establish a study commission to investigate the idea of combining services or regionalizing areas of Aquidneck Island school systems."
Rep. Rice represents half about of District 12. She has finally given some of our district a VOICE (like, she shows up). This proposal for a study commission was all over the news in late Feb. in both the "Projo" & "Daily News". "News" even did a favorable editorial. So why the late opposition? Could they not find Amy to voice their concerns while the House hearings were going on? As I recall Amy even did some rewriting when a suggestion was made to her regarding the commission membership. Middletown has no problem with this while Newport has some concerns (time involved) but are willing to participate.
