Published salaries of town/city empoyees

See today's Daily News (sorry can only partially link it- they're so darn stingy! - a JEER). While I have no problems with them publishing payroll specifics, I do have some concerns publishing names. Do you give up all rights to privacy working for municipalities? How would you like to see your salary published? Couldn't they have accomplished the same thing by using anonymous names/numbers? What you you think? I know that Sen. Levesque (Portsmouth/Warren - a heckuva combo) has concerns about privacy issues & the public's right to know. Perhaps I can prevail upon his good nature to comment.
