Storytellers in Newport Jan. 24
Thanks to RI Monthly for the heads-up. Now I know that you're thinking listening to storytellers is a kid thing. Well, find one! At any presentations that I've been to, adults listen just as intently as kids. Who doesn't love a good story?
Rhode Island Black Storytellers presents Funda Fest 11. The word funda means both to teach and to learn in the African languages of Zulu and KiSwahili. Funda Fest 11, an annual celebration of black storytelling, aims to do just that through tales both modern and multigenerational. This weekend, the festival wraps up a week of storytelling events around the state with two concerts featuring some of Rhode Island's favorite story performers. The Details: January 24 storytelling concert at 8 p.m.; $10 in advance, $20 at the door; RISD Auditorium, 17 Canal St., Providence. January 25 family storytelling concert at 2 p.m.; free; Martin Luther King Center, 20 Marcus Wheatland Blvd., Newport. For more information, call 273-4013 or visit www.ribsfest.com.
