Sen. Chafee asking R.I. Democrats to Disaffiliate for Sept. Primary
Wow! Sen. Chafee's wife sent letter, info, & forms asking Democrats to disaffiliate from their party & become Independents for the Sept. Primary. You can do this in R.I. & vote in either the Democratic OR Republican primary. There is a filing dealine in June, however. After voting you can disaffiliate again & rejoin your party if you wish. This tactic was tried by Democrats in a Sept. primary in '04 & failed miserably. Stay tuned for more political drama! P.S. Projo buried this article today. Hmmm. You'd think that all the voters who are already disaffiliated would be enough to assure Chafee a win against Laffey. If he thinks he needs to attract registered Democrats to vote for him in the Republican primary, it may be a sign that he's worried.
As someone who thinks we'd bury Laffey in the general election, this news has me smiling.
